DNA extn from high phenolic tissue?

Does anyone have any good protocols/ideas for isolating relatively pure 
DNA from plant tissue very high in phenolics?  In particular, I'm trying 
to get clean DNA from eucalyptus tissue.  Currently I'm using 1%PVPP in 
the extraction buffer, and will also try the soluble form, PVP.
However, DNA extracted so far is still quite resistant to digestion
 and brown in colour!  Any info would be greatly appreciated.
