Does anyone know what the long-term effects of storing tissue samples
from mammals or birds in a buffer containing 2% SDS will be? Can the
DNA remain intact for many years? Will membrane-bound enzymes,
organelles, etc. within the tissue sample be instantly lysed and
destroyed? Are there other potential problems? If field collections
are shipped in 2% SDS should it be washed off before storage? Any
speculations on this matter are welcome. I would particularly
apprectiate being directed to any studies dealing with the subject.
Thank you. Julie Feinstein Jfstein at AMNH.org
