PCR - SSCP loading mixture/denaturant??

I also do not want to bother with mercury containing waste, so I use 
NaOH and I have had good luck.  I would make a bunch of small batches of 
loading dye mix and freeze it away at -20 until needed if you are afraid 
the NaOH will go bad.  If it doesn't work for you, I don't know what 
else to say.  Good luck,
