Quantitation of SDS-PAGE

Is anyone aware of methods by which the results of an SDS-PAGE run can be 
quantitated? I recall seeing an article about this sometime ago, but am 
unable to locate it now. What we are aiming to do is to see if the 
optical density of the bands can be relied upon to yield quantitative 
estimates about the concentration of the protein/peptide.
