complement activation

I am, looking for an in vitro measurement of complement activation.  I want to 
add a test article to human serum and measure ...something... that will 
quantitatively indicate complement activation.  (An in vivo correlation 
(literature) of some kind would be an added bonus.)

Related to this...
Is there a commercial source of human serum that I could buy which would give 
me a consistent starting material for the type of assay I want?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
