Is linear DNA mandatory for PCR amplification ??

I remember a discussion here more than a year ago on why sequencing was
best
with supercoiled plasmid (don't remember why!) but PCR wasn't.  I had
previously been
using a supercoiled template which would not amplify, and so I linearised
it
and the PCR promptly worked perfectly.  Mere anecdotage, but it worked
for me.
