Hydroxyapatite, how does it work?

I sure know that when all the columns fail for separating a
protein, the last stop is at HAP, at that time we didnt know how
it worked, but I think its due to the Phosphate interactions i.e
the PO4- and the +charge present on the amino acids, could be
also due to the diester linkages (though would bet my money on
the last).
Would like to learn more myself.
