PCR getting smear

PCR depends on many factors all of which need some checking.  A smear 
indicates non-specific binding and may be due to not having primers 
that are specific enough or having too low of an annealing temperature 
on your PCR program.  Other things you can try are the addition of 
glycerol, or DMSO to gain a higher specificity.
