Insect RNA contains a nick in the 28S species which causes it to run along with 18S RNA on denaturing gels. This may explain the pattern seen with the shrimp and mussle RNA. Try running a non-denaturing gel and see how many bands you get. Rosemary (former Chironomid RNA person)
