Deuterium oxide in density gradient?

Sucrose in higher concentration (like most other gradient materials)
gives high viscosity solutions. I know only two media with low viscosity:
Metrizamid and D2O. Unfortunately, both are expensive. Another aspect is
the high osmotic pressure of radients, especially when you want to
isolate closed vesicles. Only D2O does not increase osmotic pressure.
