A Mono-Q (ion exchange) column works great, is fast and easy and cheap (if
you have an FPLC unit or equivalant LC system) but doesn't seem to resolve
oligos longer than about 30 bases long. Acrylamide gels give excellent
separation for any size oligo.
But (as has been noted) for most applications you can use them unpurified
if they were well made to begin with.
