Software for fragment assembly

Can anyone point me to any softare available on the net (IBM windows/
MS-DOS) for the assembly of sequence fragments. I am sequencing
deletion derivatives and need a programme that will find overlapping
regions and automatically put the fragments together. I have spent a
lot of time looking for such software but it is difficult to sort out
the programmes which will actually achieve this purpose.
