Help: P1/cosmid DNA prep.

Hi,

we just got some P1 and cosmids, both with kanamycin resistance, we tried
the usual wizard plasmid minipreps, but got a very low yield, and too much
degradation (smears).  For one of these, we were told to induce with IPTG,
but it didn't do much.

Any tricks we're not aware of?
