We use this type of 'walking' extensively in our lab.  We made our own 
libraries and use Elongase (BRL I believe) as the polymerase, but others 
should work fine.  When using genomic DNA as the template, nested PCR is 
usually necessary to reduce background.  I have amplified fragments up 
to 12 Kbp with this technique.  If you have any specific questions, feel
