GST-fusion protein breakdown

   By "lower then expected", is that based on the predicted molecular weight?
   If so, it may be just that the protein runs anomalously in the gel.
   You could try using in vitro transcription/translation to synthesize
   some protein and run it on the same gel as the E. coli protein to see
   if there is a difference in size.
