Remember that film has inherently limited linear dynamic range,
and that colorimetric has very limited dynamic range as well.	
I guess it boils down to: The chain is no stronger than its
weakest link, so whatever limits your linear dynamic range
that is the overall limitation. My guess is that luminescence or
timeresolved fluorescence probably have the best linear
dynamic ranges.
