If you just want to know if it is active then freeze-thaw of an E.coli
strain containing pLysS producing T7 lysozyme will cause lysis. Without
active T7 lysozyme the same strain should not lyse.
The problem with being on the cutting edge is that you occasionally get
sliced from time to time....
