PCR from probed filter

Hi!
Has anyone ever tried PCR amplification of a band cut out from  a Southern
filter (after hybridisation/ autoradiography for band identification).
I am sure I had read of such a technique, or was it just a dream ?

I found a paper where the bound probe was eluted from a band cut from a
northern, and reamplified (NAR 22, 1764-1765), but what I want is the
original DNA bound to the filter.
