Histone H1 size?

Could anyone tell me the size of phosphorylated Histone H1? I'm using it 
for H1 kinase assays with several cdks, and according to Stryer, Histone 
H1 is ~20kDa. But I've seen literature where H1 kinase reactions are run 
on 10% SDS-PAGE, and if histone H1 runs at ~20kDa, it should be very 
near the bottom of the gel!? 
On a related note, I see a large number of bands when I run my histone 
kinase reactions? Is this common or is something wrong?
