In reply to Dr Zhao's post on the meaning of semi-quantitative I think,
at least when applied to RT-PCR, the technique allows a more conclusive
result to be drawn from the outcome of a PCR experiment. By equalizing
input amounts of RNA or cDNA and by trying to equalize a standard
product the result may be more 'valid' than a simple yes/no (as obtained
by normal 'plateau' PCR analysis). However, true quantification at the
moment requires precise Northern analysis.
