how to prepare calf thymus DNA for Hydridisation?

PLEASE,
I would like tro prepare a solution of DNA to use as conpetitor in
hybridisation experiments.
Do you know a quick protocol to prepare a large amount of it starting from
dry DNA (do you advise any particular one?).
I am interested in a protocoll quicker then the one described in Sambrook
et al.
