Pharmacia's ALF express, in a nutshell:

* easy gel-casting
* easy equipment use (assembling the gel in the unit, focusing laser,
  loading samples, etc.)
* easy to use data analysis software

...hey, if a graduate student such as myself can pick up quickly how to
run one, they MUST be simple!  On top of that, I believe that
maintenance is low as well.
