I wouldn't think of this phrase "No affilation" too severe.
For me, when I read it, it just indicates that the the person
recommending or mentioning a product in a message wants to
point out that the information given should not be looked at as a
commercial one. This, maybe for the reason to declare the information
as a more objective one.
However, I wouldn't care about this issue too much.
