We use the Qiagen genomic kit for bacteria all the time. It works best with gram -, but it will work for Staph and Strep. The tips are the same for all preps but the reagents are different between blood, tissue culture, etc. I suggest not wasting money on the buffers, they are very easy to make yourself. Good luck!
