Have you tried MUG - 4-methylumbeliferryl b-D-glucuronide ? I seem to
remember that's what I used many years ago to follow import of GUS
labeled signal sequences into plant mitochondria. The product is
fluorescent under UV. See M5664 or M9130 in the Sigma Catalogue
