DNA isolation from mud/soil

Is the target DNA from the bacteria in the soil? If so, you may need to grow
 and separate the different colonies and then extract their DNA at that
 time---- phenol/chloroform is the easiest....  I am not a bateria person, but
 this is an option....

It all depends on the source of the DNA.... I have successfully extracted DNA
 from bloodstains on soil..... using a silica-based extraction technique.

Any help??
