Mercaptoethanol, good or not?

Dear Group,
	I know I once saw this on one of these newsgroups but I can't 
find it in the faq or through DejaNews so here is the deal.
	I remember someone posting that you could tell if 
beta-mercaptoethanol was still good by the odor, the odors were those of 
sewage versus skunk but I can't remember which way it goes.  Can somebody 
help me out here?
