Unusual behaviour of protein on SDS-PAGE gels - any suggestions?

This sounds a little like the behaviour of MHC class II; it reflects the
different conformations of the dimer with and without peptide added
(peptide stablilizes and slightly changes the conformation).  It's not
identical behaviour, but perhaps it's a starting point.
