resolution of DNA electrophoresis

Does anybody has experience with separation of complex PCR fragments
in the low Mw range, say from 50 to 400 bp.
Presently I use horizontal nondenaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis
using
Pharmacia's Multiphor II. Combined with silver staining this system works
well, 
but I want to improve the resolution up to 1 or 2 bp in the Mw range
mentioned. 
I do not want to use sequencing gels. I am aiming at other gel media.
