Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow to join a
research group, headed by Assoc. Prof. Sylvia Kirov, which is
investigating the mechanisms by which bacteria common in water and foods
(Aeromonas species) colonise the human intestine and cause
gastroenteritis.

Applicants must have a PhD in Microbiology, biochemistry or a related
dicipline.  Experimental work is varied and involves biochemical and
molecular genetic procedures, animal work, tissue culture,
immunohistochemistry and electron microscopic techniques. A strong
background in at least two of these areas is essential. An interest in
microbial pathogenesis, proven communication skills and computer knowledge
are desirable.

Commencing salary will be within the Postdoctoral Research Fellow range
currently ($39,092 - $41,889 p.a.). The position which is funded by a
three year project grant from the NHMRC will be offered on a contract
basis for one year, in the first instance.
