I think free alkalies react with CNBr to form alkali bromide and alkali
cyanide. i.e. You often dispose of excess CNBr by mixing with dilute
NaOH. I don't know if 300mM is enough, but it probably reduces the
amount of CNBr reacting with protein so that there might not be enough
(or any) left.
