Amps kill, not volts.
I've gotten "tickled" by both submersible and sequencing gel apparati and
was not injured. Under normal running conditions the amperage running
through either one would not do you much harm. However, a sequencing gel
shock does get your attention.
Running submersible gels without lids prevents overheating particularly with
low-melt gels.
