A couple of other potential solutions to the problem of
overheating gels:
1) If you have the time, lower the voltage. Try running at
35-50 V overnight.
2) Depending on the design of your gel rig, you may be able to
blow air inbetween the lid and buffer via one of those little
dime store desktop fans. I do this all the time with my Owl
Scientific box (standard disclaimer), which I can run at 175 V
and 110 mA. Works like a charm.
