EDTA and MgCl2

I want to chelate out some MgCl2 in a PCR using EDTA. It doesn't appear
to be 1:1 as expected. With 3mM Mg I can put in 3mM EDTA and it will
still work. A 1mM Mg control doesn't PCR so something is amiss. And no
it is not just as simple as making up a PCR mix with less Mg to start
with. There is a good reason for us doing it this way.
The problem with being on the cutting edge is that you occasionally get
sliced from time to time....
