buffer gradient sequencing?

Hello,

I am looking for a detailed protocol describing how to run a DNA
sequencing gel with a buffer gradient generated by using higher ionic
strength buffer in the lower tank. A dejanews search gave some ideas, like
adding 1 M sodium acetate to the lower tank buffer. Are there other ways
of generating buffer gradients? I plan to Promegas silver sequncing kit;
can a buffer gradient interfere with the silver staining?
