CTAB = Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, aka cetrimonium bromide
CTAB is used as a precipitant of nucleic acids and also of
mucopolysaccharides. The viscous solution is probably a mixture of
both. The presence of mucopolysaccharides usually does not interfere
with many nucleic acid protocols. Equilibrium centrifugation in CsCl
will greatly separate the various components of this mixture.
Best of luck,
Toai.
