Inosine-Substituted Oligos

Does anyone have experience with using oligos as hybridization probes where
multiple base positions have been substituted with Inosine?

The substitutions are necessary in order to cut the degeneracy, and
therefore to increase the sensitivity.

I am working with sequences designed from multiple-sequence alignments
where even the most highly conserved peptide regions have corresponding
nucleotide codons which are [highly] variable.
