Marine (fish) peptone is prepared by proteolytic digestion of fish
protein. It is just another peptone source with an amino acid
composition different from the others commercially available - such as
bacto (meat), phyto (plant protein), soytone (soybean meal). Amino acid
compositions for most Difco peptones are in the Difco catalog.

Marine peptone was thought to be better for the growth of marine
bacteria. However, many marine isolates grow slower on this peptone at
the usual concentrations (1%).
