Try a search of your primers against E.coli. There is always a low level
of E.coli DNA, albeit sheared, in Taq polymerase preps. It is a DNA
modifying enzyme and holds on tight! If your primers have homology to
something in E.coli and are close enough together, that may be the cause
of your problem.
