Glucose Determination

I am using Sigma's HK Gluocse assay kit to determine glucose levels in a
microbial fermentation (B. subtilis).  Initial readings appear correct,
however as the fermentation proceeds, glucose levels appear elevated (i.e.
too high to be correct). What types of byproducts produced by these cells
could cause erroneously high glucose readings?
