Growth-rate determination by phosphatase assay

Does anybody have experience with the Acid Phosphatase method for
quantifying growth of cell cultures (e.g. mammalian cells). It is
described in:
Yang, Sinai and Kain
Anal Biochem 241: 103-108, 1996

Any problems, tricks etc. What numbers of cells pr. well (96 well
plate) have been measured successfully?
