[FUN] Dumbest lab experience

I once came across the situation where someone had started an RC-5B
centrifuge but had forgot to screw the rotor (a rather large one!) to the
spindle. Surprisingly the machine got up to 16,000 rpm without any
problems. But the fun started when the speed dropped to below 1,000 rpm -
the rotor came off the spindle, smoke began to bellow from the chamber and
the machine began to wander around like a drunk student! . Thankfully it
stopped and no one was injured but the rotor (only two months old!) was a
complete write-off.
