Introns in monocot constructs

I'm in the middle of preparing a monocot promoter for tissue-specific
expression, intending to use the promoter to drive GUS (barley
transformation). The native barley gene has no intron in either 5' or
coding region. Does anyone know how likely I am to need to add an intron
(e.g.ubiquitin or actin) for stable or high levels of expression, and if
so, how great is the risk of losing the tissue specific and inducible
activity?
