Pouring transverse urea gradient gels

Hello:
I was wondering if any of you have any experience with pouring/running
transverse gradient urea gels. I have read up on the theoretical aspects of
the procedure, but I cannot figure out how to actually pour the gels using
our apparatus (Hoeffer SE600 Vertical Slab). More specifically, in order to
pour the urea gradient prerpendicular to the direction of electrophoretic
migration, I have to turn the plate by 90o. But then there is the problem
with placement of spacers etc. If I place the spacers the way I normally
would, and then turn the sandwich 90o, the spacers end up blocking the top
and then there is the issue of the gel coming running out of the sides. I
am sure there must be a simple ingenious solution, but no one around me has
ever used this method and I am kind of stumped. I would really really
appreciate some advice.

Thanks
Amna Saeed
