DNA extraction from diverse samples

I am looking for an inexpensive and efficient genomic DNA extraction
protocol. I am extracting genomic DNA from bacterial cells from diverse
samples including charcoal based growth medias  and feces. We currently
use kits from Qiagen and Promega as well as a diatom extraction method.
We are looking for protocols that will give us cleaner DNA samples to
use in PCR-based assays. Any suggestions would be apprciated!
