Electrophoeresis buffer

Forgive me for asking this stupid question but I'm just a biologist,
not a biochemist. In electrophoresis why is borate and acetate better
for DNA electropheresis than glycine or tricine. I tried running DNa
in a tris-glycine gel for the heck of it, migration was not very
effective. How is the interaction between DNA and borate better than
DNA and glycine?

Thank you.
