b-gal assays from LB cultures?

Are there any drawbacks to performing b-gal assays as described in Maniatis
from LB cultures? The lacZ is fused to the lexA promoter so catabolite
repression is not an issue. I need to select for 4 different antibiotics and
the cultures do not grow up well in A medium with all the drugs. Will LB be
compatible with Z buffer or should I give the cells a wash.
Thanks for any info,
