How long? Method 1) on plates in refrig, tightly wrapped,, about a year
2) Lyophilized years and years-decades.
3) 10 percent glycerol stocks frozen and
stored at -80 c. Good for decades as long as
freezer lasts.
"Best" is a matter of equipment at hand and need.
