I also routinely scan my Ponceau-stained Westerns and methylene blue-
stained stained Northerns before probing. If you include a couple of
orientation marks on the blot, later you can match the scanned blot with
the film to see exactly where the bands that you probed for are. You also
have a digital copy if you need to publish an image of the blot (to
demonstrate equal laoding, e.g.).
