mercapto in transformation?

I remember reading, possibly in the Hanahan paper a long time ago, that
mercaptoethanol was "purified" by them with a flow of nitrogen through the
mercaptoethanol bottle. I have never tried it, but could it be the way of
obtaining golden mercaptoethanol? Mike.
